Nokia E71 QWERTY Phone

July 2, 2008

phone2.jpg

The Nokia E71 may be Nokia’s best phone ever and while this may sound like an exaggeration you just have to see the entire package to believe it starting with the thin dimensions of the phone. The Nokia E71 comes in chrome and is a magnet for fingerprint but that’s as far as the negatives will go.

This phone is ideal for busy people since it has a reminder or event notification feature which causes the middle select key to glow white until it is cleared. Thus, when you see the white light glowing then it is enough warning that you may have missed an appointment.

The 320×240 screen provides a pleasant phone real estate which you will appreciate when browsing the web heavily. It has Bluetooth 2.0, Wi-Fi and GPS connectivity. It has a 3.2 megapixel camera which is a downer really compared to the other N-Series phones but the QWERTY keypad right below the display makes up for it. If you are a heavy camera user and you need more storage then the microSD card will provide you more than enough space. You can also transfer your images easily to your computer using the USB port.

Nokia N81 8GB: A Disappointing Update

March 12, 2008

The Nokia N81 8GB slider and music phone is a disappointing update to the N91.  Of course, it has the same 8GB storage which allows you to store and play your favorite music but it really depends if you want a cellphone or a walkman. If you want the latter then an iPod would be better.

So why is this Nseries update getting a beating?

First off, it has a plastic cover that is too smooth.  Users who get very sweaty hands will drop this phone all the time so think twice before thinking of getting this phone. The update might have an 8GB of internal memory but there’s no MicroSD memory card slot.

You also have to press the power button more forcefully to open the device. Same goes wit the d-pad. The display screen is big enough at 2.4 inches but you have to squint when you use it outdoors or when there is direct sunlight.

The N81 update has a 2.0 megapixel camera (which pales in comparison to the 5.0 MP camera of the N95) that does not have auto focus so don’t raise your hopes when it comes to getting food photos from your phone camera.  The batteries of N81 8GB seems to last longer than the N95 so that’s one advantage of the update but that’s all.

Nokia E61i: A Cellphone With The Looks Of A Calculator

March 9, 2008

The Nokia E61i may look like a wide but smaller scientific calculator but it is really one of the best smartphones in the world.  Well, no one and nothing is perfect so its makers gave it a calculator-look failed to provide3G support for US users.

However, this is one of Nokia’s best phone that anyone can take in the boardroom as well as in any rugged outing.  The phone boasts of an S60 Symbian OS, a WiFi antenna and the best QWERTY keypad, with large keys and ruberized texture.

This smartphone’s ability to operate using the 3G networks of Europe makes it ideal for business users or jetsetters. The silver metal casing can be sophisticated for those who do not want frills on their cell phones and those who put preference on function rather than form.  It is however a little heavy at 150g but still thin enough to be tucked away on your pant’s pocket.

Heavy Web users will appreciate the 2.8 inches screen display. The navigational buttons are also generally well-placed with keys for call, contacts and menu.
