April 24, 2008

Say goodbye to the ordinary black phones and say hello to the new bride, Verizon’s White XV6900, or the HTC Dual. This is a touch screen compacy smartphone you can just put in your pocket due to its size–a mere 3 pounder measuring 2.4 inches in width. 0.6 inches in depth and 3.9 inches in height.

This phone’s touch interface woudl be a delight to those who want their phones to be just a touch away for easy operations. It operates on Microsoft Windows 6.0, has a 2 megapixel camera and bluetooth functions. It includes the following software: ActiveSync 4.5, Microsoft Windows Media Player 4.5 and Microsoft Office.

Verizon’s White XC6900 is available for $249.99 with a contract. The downer? It does not have wifi. Not smart at all.

Verizon XV6800: A Stylish PC Phone

April 18, 2008

phone13.jpg

The Verizon XV6800 is a very functional PC Phone that comes in style. If you want a phone you can use for business and pleasure then this is it.

This is a high-end smartphone that also looks attractive thanks to the light blue accent that overpowers the graveness of the silver color. It looks very much like the HTC Mogul by Sprint. It slides on the side to reveal a QWERT keyboard which allows you to do your business efficiently.

For wifi users, no need to go into the complicated settings or the phone software since you can just use the switch on or off button at the side of the phone. Very smart and easy to use especially if you are in a hurry to go online.

The phone has a mini-USB port which allows more connectivity options. It has a 2 megapixel camera, runs on Mobile Windows 6 Professional, runs on 400 MHz Qualcomm MSM7500 and has Bluetooth capability.

Verizon Wireless SMT 5800

April 16, 2008

phone11.jpg

The Verizon Wireless SMT 5800 looks like an ordinary smartphone at first glance. However, unveil the QWERTY keyboard which slides out from downunder and you will realize how smart-looking it really is.

The Verizon Wireless SMT 5800 is powered by Windows Mobile 6. The QWERTY keyboard allows you to send your emails while on the go. The keypad is however too small and uncomfortable for long-term useage. The phone also does not carry instant messaging applications which is too bad considering that it is supposed to be a communicator smartphone. Heavy internet users will also rue the fact that it does not have streaming video capability.

It is very handy considering its size and weight of 119 grams. This is good news for those who just put their cellphones in their pockets. It is a bit thick though at 0.7 inches so you might want to rethink.

The default settings of the phone is however annoying as the manufacturers presumed ertain preferences that should have been left to the individual users. Take for example the lockout setting after the user has not used the cellphone for 30 seconds. If you do not tinker with your settings the first time you get this phone then you might wonder if you just got a bad deal when you start using it and it suddenly locks out.

The phone has a 2.4 inch display screen and a camera launch button on the right side for easy camera operation. The 2.0 megapixel camera resolution does not however translate well when the photos are printed. The mini-USB port at the bottom part is also an added feature you might consider. There is a microSG card that provides users an option to get an 8GB card for extra storage.

This may be a smartphone but considering its features, or even the lack of it, it may not be too smart to purchase the phone unless you can live with it.

Samsung SCH-U470-Juke: So Simple And Lacking

March 14, 2008

The Samsung SCH-U470-Juke Red is more of a music phone and the fact that it can also make calls is just incidental to its being.  The Samsung Juke is Verizon’s gift to music lovers who couldn’t afford the more expensive music phones.

The Juke looks like a thick pack of chewing gum sticks measuring 21mm with a length and width of 97×30mm.  It is not really a browsing phone so the display of 1.45inches stretched over the 120×220 pixels resolution is just enough for a music phone.

It has a scroll wheel for navigational purposes as well as big-buttoned keypads that makes it easy to use especially among those who have eye problems.

The thing about this phone is that it has a 2.5mm headphone jack  which does not really work for all people unlike a 3.5mm universal phone jack.  Don’t expect 3G capability from this phone so this is definitely not for those who surf the Web a lot or do a lot of texting. The 1.3 megapixel camera is so-so so don’t expect great pictures from this side.
